The Bremen Bundesliga soccer player Marvin Ducksch thought about ending his career early during his time at Borussia Dortmund. “Back then, after my time in Paderborn, I toyed with the idea of retiring,” said the 29-year-old striker on the pay-TV channel “Sky”.
“It was a very difficult time for me. The new coach Thomas Tuchel didn’t speak to me.” Born in Dortmund, he returned to BVB in 2015 after a loan from SC Paderborn, where current Bayern coach Tuchel succeeded Jürgen Klopp in the 2015/16 season.
“My best friend got me out of the swamp,” Ducksch reported. “Since that time I have appreciated what I have, what I can do and I also work a lot on myself to bring the best I can onto the pitch.” After stints at FC St. Pauli, Holstein Kiel, Fortuna Düsseldorf and Hannover 96, the striker moved to Werder in 2021.
Ducksch wants the filling jug to stay
In Bremen he recently extended the contract until 2026 and rejected an offer from Saudi Arabia. “The money played a role in the consideration,” said Ducksch, adding: “If I continue to play good football in the next few years, I can imagine that there would be another offer from Saudi Arabia.”
The former Dortmund player hopes for a similar sign from his colleague Niclas Füllkrug. “Of course I would be happy if the common path continues,” said the 29-year-old in the Sky interview: “Maybe we’ll find out in the next few days what he decides to do,” said Ducksch
Füllkrug is still under contract on the Weser until the summer of 2025. However, his future is open, several top clubs are vying for the German national striker. So far, however, Werder has apparently not received an appropriate offer. Allegedly, the Bremen team only want to start negotiations if the transfer fee is 20 million euros.
