Both Bakker Ammerlaan and Zeeman closed their doors permanently a few months ago. Residents in De Leyens have been wondering for some time which new entrepreneur will open a business in the vacant buildings. But we have good news! Read the plans of entrepreneur Shukorullah below.

The walls between the two buildings have been broken down into a large space for the new supermarket.
Something for everyone
Shukorullah Amani can’t wait to show his shop to the Zoetermeer public. “Soon local residents will be able to go here for fruit, vegetables, fresh nuts, herbs and bread. Greek snacks and Turkish sweets, such as baklava, will be displayed in the display cases at the checkout. Children will soon be able to buy popular candy from America here and there will be a liquor store. If a customer asks for a specific product from Suriname, the Netherlands, Iran or another country, I will arrange it.”

Happy in Lake View
In 2011, Shukorullah and his wife fled from Argentina to the Netherlands. “We found an apartment in Wateringen. But after the birth of our third child, the house became too small. Now we live in the nice neighborhood of Meerzicht.”
He worked as a salesman in Beverwijk and at a souvenir shop in Amsterdam. “There I often spoke with tourists and heard which products are popular in their country. I now use this knowledge in my new business.” Shukorullah wants to come up with fun activities for the people in the area. “Older people and children in the neighborhood will soon receive a discount in my store. I want to make people happy.”
Supermarket & Slijterij De Leyens will open around mid-August.
