Is Chelsea merciful?
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (34) can hope for a new challenge in France after the messed-up season at Chelsea – and Olympique Marseille can hope for a free transfer from the former BVB striker.
According to consistent reports, a transfer is imminent provided OM and the Londoners have agreed whether or not to transfer the Gabon striker. The French are said to be aiming for a change for free and, according to “L’Équipe” and “RMC Sport”, among others, have good prospects. Personally, Aubameyang and the Ligue 1 club should already agree on a contract term of at least two years with an option for another season.
If Chelsea waives a fee for the striker, who is still valued at 4 million euros, the Blues would at least record salary savings that are likely to be far higher than a conceivable fee. In the meantime, there have been reports of a transfer fee from London for EUR 6 million. Aubameyang’s contract at Stamford Bridge runs until 2024 following his €12m move from Barcelona last year.
This one year on the Thames was not successful in terms of sport. Aubameyang’s market value had fallen by almost 75 percent over the course of the season. The ex-Dortmunder, who moved from Arsenal to FC Barcelona on a free transfer in early 2022, was efficient in front of goal in a half-series in Catalonia, contributing eleven goals in 17 league games for Barça and two in the Europa League. At Chelsea it was just one Premier League goal in 15 appearances and two in the Champions League.
