Bundesliga handball team Füchse Berlin started preparing for the new season on Monday.
In the first few days, the focus is primarily on data analysis. Lactate tests, sports medical examinations and strength tests should give coach Jaron Siewert an idea of the fitness level of his players.
“That way we can see what condition they are in when they come back from vacation. Then you can see very well in the first training session in the hall who did a little more and who did a little less,” said Siewert. The first thing to do is to work on the athletics, “to create a good basis and to get the boys used to the ball again,” the Foxes coach continues.
But there will also be initial talks with the players. Because “mental fitness always plays a very important role for me,” said Siewert.
Almost the entire squad is available to the coach. The two newcomers Jerry Tollbring (Sweden) and Hakun West av Teigum (Faroe Islands) as well as the U21 world champions Nils Lichtlein, Matthes Langhoff and Tim Freihöfer are there.
Only captain Paul Drux will have to pause longer after his Achilles tendon tear.
Füchse Berlin will be doing a short training camp in the Spreewald from July 24th to 29th. On August 28th, the Berliners will start the new season with an away game at SC DHfK Leipzig.
