An 80s cult album returns this year: In June 1982, the British band ABC (“The Look of Love”) released their concept album “The Lexicon of Love”, which at the time was in the upper regions of the album charts worldwide. In keeping with the 40th anniversary, the classic comes out in a new guise. There are also a few more surprises on top.

ABC are releasing never-before-seen material

“The Lexicon of Love”, on which band leader Martin Fry deals with the end of a relationship, is being completely revised for his 40th birthday. To do this, Fry sat down with the sound professionals at Abbey Roads Studios, who drew attention to themselves in the 1960s with their collaboration with the Beatles. The album was remastered at half-speed. In this process, the original tape recording as well as the print of the record is played at half speed. As a result, there is more time to improve the frequency response or dynamics, for example.

But ABC don’t just want to provide a better listening experience with the anniversary edition of their debut album. The bundle also includes an exclusive collection of three additional LPs, which will feature previously unreleased material from the band. These include a live recording from the Hammersmith Odeon from 1982 and a remix of “The Look of Love”. And that’s not all. As a further treat, the collection has a Blu-ray to offer, which includes a Dolby Atmos mix of the album as well as the 55-minute film “Mantrap”. Restored in HD, the musical thriller tells the fictional story of ABC’s tour behind the “Iron Curtain” in the Soviet Union.

The anniversary edition of The Lexicon of Love will be released on August 4, 2023. Pre-orders are open here already possible.
