Berlin Fashion Week in July 2023 will once again be a unique event that represents the creative energy and diversity of the city. With its focus on creativity, freedom and inclusion, Fashion Week Berlin from July 10th to 13th will be the international showcase for the fashion industry.
Berlin is known for its subcultural movements, trends and progressive fashion. Fashion Week reflects these transformations and focuses on important themes such as sustainability, inclusion and innovation. The status quo that Berlin conveys as a city and as a fashion metropolis sets new standards in an industry that is still strongly influenced by tradition. The Berlin Fashion Week differs from the fashion weeks in Milan, Paris, London and New York and follows a path that is not only progressive but also revolutionary. With the physical meeting of designers, press, buyers and creative people, Berlin Fashion Week promotes exchange, inspiration and visibility within the industry – not only for established but also for up-and-coming heads of the industry.
Talent promotion and interdisciplinary collaboration is the focus
A highlight of the Fashion Week is the Berlin Contemporary concept competition, which is organized by the Fashion Council Germany on behalf of the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Public Enterprises. This competition promotes talented designers from Berlin and the rest of the country. A total of 18 selected designers will present their collections during Fashion Week, including established labels such as ODEEH, Esther Perbandt, RIANNA + NINA and up-and-coming talent such as Acceptance Letter Studio and Namilia.
The Berlin Salon exhibition in the Kronprinzenpalais also offers a platform for no fewer than 44 talents from the fields of design, fashion, photography and art, thus bundling the artistic and creative potential of the fashion industry in an interdisciplinary manner.
Another event platform, the newEST, presents fashion shows by Berlin Contemporary winners in cooperation with the Berlin State Museums. Here, too, overarching synergy plays a major role: Architectural and cultural highlights of the city such as the Old National Gallery and the James-Simon-Galerie are included as event locations and thus combine architecture, art and fashion.
The Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Businesses sees great potential in funding the Berlin Fashion Week: “Fashion ‘MadeinBerlin’ is fresh, bold and forward-looking – and with almost 4,800 companies and 25,500 employees it is a growing economic factor. We want to consciously develop the Berlin Fashion Week into a stage for the creative craftsmanship of the most visionary designers from our city and around the world and thus set international accents,” says Senator Franziska Giffey.
W.E4.FASHION DAY, Studio2Retail and BeyondFashionBerlin: fashion shows, pop-ups and sustainability
Fashion Week also offers networking opportunities and an extensive content program on the latest trends in fashion, business, sustainability, tech and beauty. The W.E4.FASHION DAY unites four designers – Rebekka Ruetz, Danny Reinke, Marcel Ostertag and Kilian Kerner – under one roof to present their current collections in the Verti Music Hall. Meanwhile, the Studio2Retail project, which is also being implemented by the Fashion Council Germany eV on behalf of the Berlin Senate Department for Economics, Energy and Businesses, brings the Fashion Week mood to the entire city: Fashion shows, events and pop-ups at various locations lead visitors to: inside through all of Berlin. Sustainability is also playing a major role these days: the BeyondFashionBerlin trade fair is once again taking place in the Atelier Gardens and is aimed at brands and buyers for whom sustainability is not just an extra but a matter of course. The fair evaluates participating labels according to their sustainable practices and thus promotes transparency. The flagship formats PREMIUM and SEEK present a new concept for a progressive community. This year, for the first time, the events will take place over just two days at the Berlin station. They offer a platform for well-known brands and up-and-coming labels such as Silk Laundry, Veja and Helinox. The sustainability conference 202030 Summit provides relevant information and impulses for the future of the fashion industry.
