It seemed like fantasizing: ex-chairman and CEO KVK respond to a deal that has fallen through

On June 14, the takeover of KV Kortrijk by father and son Kaminski is, so to speak, complete. They give a brief explanation, but journalists are not allowed to ask questions. Three weeks later, the takeover turns out to be hot air. After a notice of default, they were given a little longer to pay, but that deadline also expires today. The club itself does not want to comment yet. Matthias Leterme, ex-CEO and former chairman Ronny Verhelst do respond. They had a bad feeling about the Kaminskis from the start.

“It seemed fantastic”

“I’ve shown around a lot of parties at KVK, serious and less serious ones, but when I showed the Kaminskis and their advisors around for the KVK – Club Brugge match, the picture was totally wrong,” says Leterme. “It seemed fantastic to me. So much so that I told our chairman, Ronny Verhelst, not to bother to visit and meet them after the game.”

No trust in Kaminski’s

Nevertheless, owner Vincent Tan signed a letter of intent to take over. The drop too much for the CEO and chairman. “The reason why Matthias and I left is precisely because we didn’t trust them. I didn’t have a good feeling about it from the start. It’s that simple. I am very sorry for the Chamber of Commerce”, says former chairman Ronny Verhelst.
