Man who killed daughters, stay in jail

The facts took place on November 16, 2022 in a farm along the Sijslostraat in Waardamme, a sub-municipality of Oostkamp. Chris V. suffocated his five and eight-year-old daughters that Wednesday afternoon. The bodies of the victims were found around 8 p.m. in their father’s home. Chris V. was missing at that time, but was arrested later that evening. The suspect had hit a pole with his car.

Revenge

The father of the victims immediately made confessions. The divorce with the mother of his daughters would have been the basis of the facts. After the fact, he called his ex-partner to say it was “too late”. In some letters he later stated that he acted out of revenge. V. would have feared that he would not see the children enough. Two days before the murders, a hearing of the family court had been postponed, which meant that V. had to wait longer for a new visitation arrangement.

Additional research

Meanwhile, the investigating judge was additionally requested by the public prosecutor’s office to investigate a possible murder attempt on the ex-partner and her father. Some electricity cables are said to have been cut in the house in Waardamme. In his own words, V. only wanted to complicate the search for the children’s bodies, so there was absolutely no question of an attempted murder. In the meantime, the civil party also filed an additional complaint for harassment, because the suspect would continue to send letters from prison. On December 11, he must also answer to the criminal court for partner violence and rape.
