Germany’s golf idol Bernhard Langer has crowned himself the most successful player in the history of the US Seniors Tour with his 46th victory.
The 65-year-old from Anhausen won the title at the US Senior Open and is now the sole record holder for the over-50s.
The Masters winner in 1985 and 1993 trumped golf legend Hale Irwin, the American won 45 tournaments on the US seniors tour in his career.
Langer won the major tournament in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, thanks to a final round of 70 with a total of 277 shots ahead of Americans Steve Stricker (279 shots) and Jerry Kelly (280).
Alex Cejka also showed a strong performance on the par 71 course. The 52-year-old German finished tied for ninth place at the $4 million event, seven strokes behind Langer.
Florida resident Langer has been the superstar on the US seniors tour for 16 years. The veteran has so far earned more than 34 million US dollars in prize money among the over-50s.
