After the construction holiday, the Peizer district De Westerd will be renovated. Replacing the sewer also means investing in the appearance of the neighbourhood.
The sewer in De Westerd needs to be replaced. “If you leave it alone, you run the risk of it tearing in the long run,” says alderman Robert Meijer (VVD) of the municipality of Noordenveld. He oversees the project with a cost of more than four million euros.
The first activities are already underway in De Westerd. Utility companies lay and replace cables there. “We can be happy that they can do this before the construction holiday, because many utility companies are struggling with a lack of personnel and material. This will give us a head start,” says Meijer.
In addition to replacing the sewer system, De Westerd must be given a ‘more village-like’ appearance. “The road is being redeveloped. Now it’s just asphalt, but soon there will be cobblestones on both sides of the road,” Meijer outlines.
The refurbishment should ensure that motorists drive less fast. A maximum speed of thirty kilometers per hour applies in De Westerd, but in practice that speed is often exceeded.
Avitec from Nieuw-Buinen will carry out the project for the municipality. Both the contractor and the municipality are hopeful that everything will be ready before the summer of 2024.
In the meantime, it is important to keep the nuisance to a minimum. Avitec calls on residents of the neighborhood to report complaints. “There is nuisance, that is part of such projects,” concludes alderman Meijer.
