There is a bomb under Op1: not only is it rumbling behind the scenes, but the viewing figures are also bad. Even Marcel & Gijs attracted more attention yesterday. What does Luuk Ikink think of it?
It seems more and more that Op1 will disappear from the tube after this year of broadcasting, because an untenable situation has arisen in the workplace under chief bobo Bert Huisjes. And that’s on top of the viewing figures, which have been very meager for quite some time. For example, even fewer people watched it yesterday than the SBS 6 experiment Marcel & Gijs.
Overtaken at 1
While Op1 got stuck at 468 thousand viewers (16 percent market share), Marcel & Gijs recorded the second most watched broadcast to date for the second evening in a row: 493 thousand people (13 percent) watched it. If the main talk show of the public broadcaster attracts fewer viewers than an attempt on SBS 6, that is a blow against.
Viewing figure connoisseur Tina Nijkamp writes: “Marcel & Gijs is the number two talk show after Jinek. So the show has more viewers than Op1, which is in great crisis. Ouch. Also only 6.1 percent market share in the commercial target group 25 to 54 years. Oh dear. Half of Marcel and Gijs. And that for a broadcast of Charles and Carrie.”
Charles and Carrie
Charles Groenhuijsen and Carrie ten Napel are normally one of the best viewed duos, says Tina. “It is CRISIS in capitals for Op1.”
Even worse for Op1: even the late NOS Journaal after the broadcast had even more viewers, namely 531 thousand viewers (27 percent). That means that people very purposefully zap around the talk show.
What does Luke think?
What does Luuk Ikink, media expert and presenter of RTL Boulevard think of it? He pleads for Op1 to be taken off the air. “A good moment to think about the future of Op1. The NPO has such a beautiful talk show history with Pauw & Witteman and Pauw. Op1 still does not have that status after all these years. “
He thinks the time has come to overhaul the late evening of NPO 1: “Maybe it’s time for something new. More personality, one host or a duo. Less changing of the guard. What chaos at Op1.”
