DAX-FLASH: Dax will probably slip well below 16,000 points

FRANKFURT (dpa-AFX) – The recent weakness in the German stock market should continue on Thursday and the Dax (DAX 40) should fall below the round mark of 16,000 points. The broker IG appraised the leading German index two hours before the start of Xetra with minus 0.6 percent to 15,927 points.

This would mean that the Dax would be listed below both the 21 and 50-day line for the short- and medium-term trend. The prospect of further increases in key interest rates this year in the USA despite the temporary interest rate pause is currently weighing on the stock exchanges.

However, there are still enough investors who would have missed the rally in whole or in part and would certainly gratefully use a major setback to buy, noted Thomas Altmann, portfolio manager at asset manager QC Partners.

Central bank decisions are on the agenda in Norway, Switzerland and Great Britain on Thursday. According to analyst Michael Hewson from CMC Markets UK, all three countries are also likely to raise interest rates, with the Bank of England possibly even raising interest rates by 0.5 percentage points./ajx/stk
