Dennis van der Geest lies with his back on the viewing figures field and the relentless viewer does not let go. Are we now witnessing the end of his TV career? Is he slowly chasing Gordon?

It is one of SBS 6’s most expensive flops ever: Million Dollar Island. This adventurous show by Dennis van der Geest was not a cracker in the first season, but this second season really beats everything in terms of poor viewing figures. John de Mol’s hopes of ever selling this formula to the United States have now really come to an end.

In the hold

Million Dollar Island only scored 218 thousand viewers last night (7 percent market share) and is therefore the penultimate place in the top 25 viewing figures, a really bad score for such a costly project. Even De Grote Renovation Australia managed to captivate even more viewers on SBS 6 in the evening.

It is obvious: Dennis van der Geest and his TV career are stuck in the headlock. Will this former judoka still be ok? Tina Nijkamp, former broadcaster boss of SBS 6, fears the worst.

Gordon after?

This is according to Tina hey bad. She writes: “The big loser at half past eight is SBS 6. Like every week, it’s quite a shame for Dennis van der Geest, but this is very low. That is even less than Pinkpop had on NPO 3. And then De Grote Verbouwing at half past six. It also flopped in Australia, where the format started last week.”

She continues: “And Dennis van der Geest’s TV career, like Gordon’s, also seems to be increasingly in jeopardy. Because, just like with Gordon, no TV format has yet become a real success on John de Mol’s channel. His new show De Prins met het Witte Haar will start on 2 July. Hopefully for Dennis that will be a TV hit.”

Less than Kaga

The consolation final in the Nations League between the Netherlands and Italy (0-1) was the prime time winner with 837 thousand viewers (57 percent) on NPO 1, followed by Caroline Tensens Een against 100 with 680 thousand viewers (21 percent) on RTL 4.

And College Tour with Caroline van der Plas? 565 thousand people (18 percent) watched it. “Nice score considering the sports competition, but less than Sigrid Kaag scored: 721 thousand viewers,” says Tina.
