Sport 2000 International closes 2022 with a double-digit increase in sales

The trading association Sport 2000 International GmbH, which belongs to the ANWR Group, was also able to grow strongly in the 2022 financial year. Gross retail sales reached 6.5 billion euros last year, exceeding the previous year’s level by 15.5 percent, the company said on Tuesday. This means that revenues were 36.5 percent higher than in 2019, the last financial year before the outbreak of the Covid 19 pandemic. At the end of 2022, more than 2,300 retailers with around 3,600 stores in 25 countries belonged to the association.

A main strategic goal is now “the even stronger networking of Sport 2000 on an international level”, the company explained. “Each of our countries has the highest level of expertise in different areas. We share this know-how in our international community,” explained Margit Gosau, CEO of Sport 2000 International and Sport 2000 GmbH, which is responsible for Germany, Switzerland and the Benelux countries. Ultimately, “the entire sports retail community benefits from the “international exchange and joint projects,” Gosau emphasized in a statement.

However, the geographical presence of the association group will decrease in a few months: “Due to different strategic plans for the future”, Sport 2000 International and SGN Sports would “go their separate ways at the end of 2023”, the company announced. As a result of this decision, Sport 2000 was “no longer represented in Sweden and Finland”.

CEO Gosau justified the step: “Our goal is not to fill the map with national representatives, but to focus on high-quality and strategically coordinated cooperation that optimally suits the orientation of Sport 2000,” she explained.
