Thijs Zeeman accuses Angela de Jong of writing a TV review about him without watching his program. “Her column is based on pertinent untruths.”
Two years ago, Angela de Jong wrote a very critical column about Thijs Zeeman’s programme. ‘You must be Thijs Zeeman and want to score over the back of four innocent children’, read the headline. The opinion diva was very critical of one specific fragment in his program Zeeman Confronteert.
Angela with stomach ache
Angela wrote in the newspaper at the time: “The absolute low point of the broadcast was a video recorded by Samantha in which Eelco attacks her and their children watch screaming and crying. The sound went through marrow and bone. Zeeman was apparently very proud that he had managed to get his hands on it, because he showed it twice.”
She continued: “It gave me a stomach ache. And I still have it. You will be those children. You will have such parents. And you will be Thijs Zeeman and want to score over the back of four innocent children.”
Thijs strikes back
Thijs now sets up NPO Radio 1 that Angela was not very professional here. “I’m very glad you asked me this, because sometimes you see a column that you think: apparently you don’t have to see a program to be able to write a column about it.”
He continues: “If she had just really watched my program, she would have been able to see immediately that these children were completely out of the picture, because of course we do not.”
Staged
So what Angela writes is not correct? “It’s not right at all, no. The woman in question staged a stalking. A major problem in the Netherlands is parental alienation: there is a conflict between two parents and the woman or man is trying to get the other parent out of custody.”
He continues: “By involving us, she tried to remove her husband from parental authority. There she used, among other things, a video, with which she indicated: I am being mistreated here. We have analyzed the video and we actually see that she stages this from A to Z. So she shouts very loudly, but nothing happens at all.”
‘Twice? No!’
You only hear those children in the background, says Thijs. “We showed that video once; you only see her in the picture and you hear the children, and the second time we just played it. Don’t show again. If those children had been on that image, the video would not have made it to the broadcast.”
Why was it important to show that video? “This video was not only used with us, but also with the court, so it served a function. If Angela de Jong had just seen our episode, she would have understood that this column actually makes no sense. I don’t think she saw him.”
squabble
But how can Angela de Jong write a column without having seen the broadcast? “Yes, she came to the squabble. You sometimes have that.”
“Sometimes a lot of noise is made on Twitter that something is happening. She probably saw part of it and wrote a column about it.”
