The American Basketball League (NBA) team Philadelphia 76ers announced that Nick Nurse has been appointed as the head coach.
In the statement made on the 76ers’ website, it was announced that an agreement was reached with 55-year-old US coach Nurse for the head coach position vacated by Doc Rivers.
Nurse, who worked as an assistant coach at the Toronto Raptors between 2013-2018, was later appointed as the head coach. The Raptors had their first championship in their history under Nurse in the 2018-2019 season. Nurse, who has also coached the Canadian Men’s National Team since June 2019, was selected as the head coach of the year in the NBA in the 2019-2020 season.
National basketball player Furkan Korkmaz also played for the 76ers, finishing the regular season in third place in the NBA with 54 wins and 28 losses. The 76ers, who beat the Brooklyn Nets 4-0 in the first round of the Eastern Conference play-offs, parted ways with Rivers, who had coached the team for three seasons, after being eliminated by the Boston Celtics 4-3 in the semifinals series.
