Wilfred Genee and Martien Meiland buy new cars: ‘Clumsy’

Two SBS 6 stars spoke extensively on television about their fleet last week: Wilfred Genee and Martien Meiland. “I don’t think you should display your wealth so much!”

Martien Meiland went out in his reality soap last Monday to take a test drive in a Land Rover Defender with a new value of more than 85,000 euros. In his case it is a second-hand car, but that is not the case with Wilfred Genee. He now drives an electric Audi Q8 with a starting price of 80,000 euros.

Family Robber

A lot of people fit, especially in the car that Martien took for a test drive; there are seven seats in that Land Rover. “Of course it has been constantly running through our heads that we all want to be in the car. He is unique to see,” said the reality star in Chateau Meiland.

His life partner Erica: “The car he has in mind is very big, very long and very high. It really makes no sense. He can’t do that at all. He is serious and Maxime is then sewing him up a bit like: ‘Oh, Dad, what a nice car.’ It has all seats in it. Seven seats. (…) The older, the crazier.”

Very expensive Q8

On to Wilfred Genee. His guest Ben van der Burg revealed last Friday in Today Inside: “I saw that you also had a new car. A new contract and a new car. Yes, you see that again, don’t you? Just a fat Q8, huh?”

Wilfred: “It is an e-tron. Electric.”

Ben: “Yes, yes Q8, yes. I’ve had the one with the yoke steering wheel for a while now. That doesn’t work for a meter at a roundabout. But Elon Musk liked it, so he put that in.”

Awkward

Private star journalist Jan Uriot does not find all that boasting on television with new cars useful. He points in his column What does Jan think especially to the Meilandjes. “I’m watching this week and another new car is being bought. Then we are not talking about a Fiat 500, but about a huge box that will be bought there.”

He continues: “I always say this: in Amsterdam-Zuid, I don’t dare to walk with my watch. I don’t think you should display your wealth so much. That does not seem useful to me.”

‘Stop it!’

The Meilandjes can get into a lot of trouble because of it, says Jan. “I would stop going to those dealers all the time and buying cars.”

He concludes: “Have you seen that fleet of vehicles parked in front of the door? That’s huge. And people with bad intentions are also watching, so watch out, the Meiland family!”
