Dutchman Michael van Gerwen has risen to become the sole record winner of the Premier League darts with his seventh win. “Mighty Mike” won the final of the prestigious league in London’s o2 arena against Gerwyn Price from Wales 11:5.
With the triumph, van Gerwen left none other than darts legend Phil Taylor (six titles) behind. On the penultimate day, van Gerwen withdrew due to shoulder pain before his semi-final against Dimitri van den Bergh (Belgium). A precaution.
In the semifinals in London, the three-time world champion initially prevailed against Englishman Michael Smith. He won the new edition of the 2023 World Cup final with 10:8. Price defeated his compatriot Jonny Clayton 10:2 in fast forward.
The semi-finalists had previously played in the first four places in the table on 16 main round match days and thus qualified for the play-off evening. The Premier League is an invitation tournament of the world association PDC, which has been held since 2005. A German player has never been among the participants.
