LUXEMBOURG (dpa-AFX) – Industrial production in the euro zone rose significantly more than expected in December. Compared to the previous month, total production rose by 1.2 percent, as reported by the Eurostat statistics office in Luxembourg on Wednesday. On average, analysts had only expected an increase of 0.3 percent. In addition, the previous month’s value was revised slightly upwards.

Production rose by 2.4 percent in November after an increase of 2.3 percent had initially been determined.

In December, the main increase was in the manufacture of capital goods such as machines. The production of intermediate and consumer goods also increased.

Compared to the same month last year, total production increased by 1.6 percent. A decline of 0.5 percent had been expected here.

In 2021 as a whole, industrial production in the euro zone increased by 7.8 percent after collapsing in 2020, the year of the Corona crisis./jsl/jkr/mis
