Unrest about plans N371 at Kloosterveen in Assen not yet gone after a well-attended meeting

Traffic plan N371, Norgerbrug and Kloosterveen

The province of Drenthe, together with the municipalities of Assen and Midden-Drenthe, has drawn up a sketch for adapting the N371, the road from Assen to Bovensmilde, for a better traffic connection to and from the Kloosterveen district in Assen. There will also be a new, wider Norger Bridge in Bovensmilde. These adjustments should provide more safety and a better flow of traffic.

Part of the plans is a third main access road for the Kloosterveen district, which will be entirely the responsibility of the municipality of Assen. Due to the further expansion of Assen’s youngest residential area, traffic on the N371 is increasing considerably. That is why intervention is needed and a new bridge will be built over the Drentse Hoofdvaart, creating a third access road to the residential area. This access road is connected to the N371 via a roundabout. There will also be a hub for public transport, a so-called public transport hub.

To properly solve the increasing traffic from and to Kloosterveen, the N371 (Balkenweg) along Kloosterveen must be rerouted and doubled. Due to road safety, the bicycle crossing from Kloosterveen to the Baggelhuizerplas, near the Polweg, will be cancelled.
