Four people, including three police officers, were killed on Sunday morning in a tragic road accident in Villeneuve-d’Ascq, near Lille in northern France, near the border with Belgium. Two other people were seriously injured. This has been reported by the prefecture and the French Ministry of the Interior.

A police van and another vehicle were involved in the accident. According to ‘BFMTV’, there was a head-on collision on the RD 700 near Villeneuve-d’Ascq. The police car was found in a ditch. Three police officers were killed instantly. They belonged to Roubaix’s corps. Two victims were 25 years old, the third officer was 24, knows ‘BFMTV’.
A fourth person was in the police vehicle at the time of the accident. This is a 16 year old girl. The police officers took her to the hospital to be seen by a forensic doctor, the Lille public prosecutor’s office told ‘BFMTV’. According to the prefecture, the young woman was rushed to Lille hospital after the accident. The girl is seriously injured.
The 25-year-old driver died in the other vehicle. A passenger was seriously injured and is in a critical condition, reports ‘Le Parisien’. According to ‘BFMTV’, these individuals were no strangers to the court. The driver was known for taking drugs and insulting an official. The passenger was also known to the police.
An investigation has been launched to determine the cause of the dramatic accident.
“My thoughts go out to the families of the victims,” Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin said on Twitter.
