After third division promotion
After VfB Lübeck last week announced the option of extending Lukas Pfeiffer’s contract through promotion to the third division, the club has now confirmed that the 32-year-old will continue to act as head coach. The promoted team thus risks a penalty from the DFB because the coach has not yet had the necessary UEFA Pro license.
Pfeiffer said in a statement from the club: “I am very grateful for the great trust that VfB has placed in me and for the courage that was necessary for this decision. I have always emphasized that I feel very comfortable in Lübeck and at the Lohmühle and would like to work here for a longer period of time, preferably as a head coach, of course. I am very pleased that this will now be possible and am looking forward to further cooperation and the great tasks that will lie ahead of us together. I will do everything I can to help establish VfB in professional football with my work.”
The former video analyst of the German national team under Joachim Löw holds the B license. However, in the course of his appointment as head coach in summer 2021, he had received the promise from the DFB that he could register for the A license course, which is a prerequisite in the Regionalliga Nord. After the corona pandemic, the application process for the apprenticeship was changed, and since then other applicants have been given preference.
