In March, criminals posed as cops and repeatedly stopped foreign car dealers on the side of the road to rob them. The fake agents used firearms in three robberies in Sint Hubert, Veghel and Uden to steal around 67,000 euros in cash.
A 36-year-old car dealer from Romania is one of the victims of the fake agents. On Wednesday, March 15, he drove to Uden with his trailer to unload a car there. Suddenly a white BMW 330i Touring pulled up next to him, with two men in it.
stop sign
They showed a stop sign from the side window. Where it would immediately be clear to most Dutch people that these are not real police cars and agents, the Romanian car dealer followed the BMW. He thought it was a regular checkup.
The man cooperated and gave his identification papers and driver’s license to the fake officer. He realized something wasn’t right when the fake cop asked if the car dealer had any drugs or money on him. The Romanian said that he only had money with him and that is what the fake agent wants.
Firearm
The car dealer did not trust it and only wanted to show the money at a real police station. The atmosphere then changed and the Romanian was threatened with a firearm. The two fake agents robbed him of 16,000 euros. Money that was meant to buy cars.
According to the police, the fake agents target people who carry a lot of cash. Especially on foreign car dealers who don’t immediately see the difference between real cops and criminals who pretend to be.
Surveillance footage
The Romanian was not the only victim of the fake agents. The Monday before, they had a foreign Landrover stop at the Kruisweg in Uden. But the potential victims turned out not to have that much money with them. The fake agents left it for what it was. But: the action was filmed by both the car dealers and a security camera.
That way the real police found out the license plate of the white BMW. One of the perpetrators was also filmed from afar. He has a sturdy build, light skin and hair color and he is 170 to 175 centimeters tall. It is striking that he wore a corona mask and transparent gloves and spoke poor English.
67,000 euros
A day later it turns out that the car in question had been refueled in Zaltbommel and the driver was filmed at the checkout. From further investigation it becomes clear that the white BMW is also involved in a robbery in Veghel in which 34,800 euros is captured. Furthermore, fake agents strike with the same station wagon in Sint Hubert and there they steal 16,000 euros from a car dealer. That brings the total on that one day to almost 67,000 euros.
The white BMW station wagon drives around with stolen number plates, but also has a green environmental sticker that is required in Germany. The police therefore think that the car regularly crosses the border and wants to know whether people recognize the car or have it on screen.
