Club misses start of Play-Offs after another defeat

The match between last season’s champion and vice-champion got off to a slow start. Club had possession, but could not create any danger. Only in the final phase of the first half did the audience in the Jan Breydel Stadium wake up with a fright. First a header for Club Spileers at the intersection, and then it was a hit on the other side. Simon Mignolet, who received his Golden Boot before the match, had no recourse to a powerful shot from Boniface, 0-1.

Book immediately after halftime

Club went into the changing rooms with a bad feeling and immediately after the break had to deal with another blow. A long shot from Lazare deviated from Spileers, and passed a doubting Mignolet, 0-2. The visitors even came close to a third goal. Boniface’s inside tag was ruled out for offside. On the Bruges side, the game was too mediocre for a long time. Only in added time was Vanaken able to soften with a striking header, but that was it. Final score: 1-2.

Club therefore starts the Play-Offs with 0/6 and already seems certain of its fourth place. With twelve points to earn, Club is nine points behind Antwerp, which today plays against leader Racing Genk.
