See you later!
For now we say goodbye to Formula 1 in Miami. It continues at 10:00 p.m. with qualifying. We’ll get back to you on time!
19:35
Verstappen sets the tone
The picture from Friday is confirmed and Max Verstappen is the big favorite for the weekend in Miami. The world championship leader has been doing well since the first training session and was able to finish the final training session ahead of the competition. Red Bull’s biggest competition remains Ferrari. It’s tight in midfield and just two tenths separate fifth and tenth place. While Haas is on the upswing after the mixed Baku weekend and was able to take eighth place thanks to Hülkenberg, Mercedes should be anything but happy with the training. Tenth and 13th place for Russell and Hamilton is certainly not what the team is aiming for.

The 3rd practice at the Miami International Autodrome is over and after the test starts it’s back to the pits. Behind Sainz are the two alpine riders Ocon and Gasly. Valtteri Bottas is a good seventh ahead of Nico Hülkenberg and Alex Albon. Only then does the first Mercedes follow with George Russell.

18:31
Start 3rd training
The traffic lights are green, the 3rd training session in Miami, FL has started. Esteban Ocon is the first driver to hit the track. He’s on the medium.
18:28
The conditions
It’s hot again in Miami today. The track temperature is 46 degrees shortly before the 2nd training session. The air has warmed up to 29 degrees.
18:22
Route still slippery
Another topic on Friday was the track. It was resurfaced this year but was still very slippery, leading to many mistakes and little tire degradation on the hards and mediums. It will now be interesting to see how the course will continue to develop.
18:16
The midfield remains tight
As usual, things are tight in midfield. Aston Martin is the team that sets the tone, but Alpine and Haas were also able to achieve good results on yesterday’s Friday practice session. As usual, McLaren didn’t unpack everything on Friday, but here too the shape curve is pointing upwards.
18:08
Ferrari leads the field of pursuers
The day did not go entirely smoothly for Ferrari after Charles Leclerc crashed in the second practice session, but it seems that the team could at least keep up with the bulls on a fast lap and maybe become a big spoilsport like in Baku. Behind them there seems to be a gap in the direction of Mercedes and the rest of the field.
18:00
Red Bull remains the dominant team
Red Bull has dominated the 2023 season so far and there are many indications that it will not be easy to beat the team in Miami either. Max Verstappen in particular was in good shape on Friday and confidently set himself apart from the competition. Teammate Perez, on the other hand, had to struggle more and after his outstanding Baku weekend in Florida was not yet able to call up his maximum. However, it is quite unclear what the balance of power is in the long run, as not many laps could be completed for the data due to red flags.
