Peter Gabriel releases next single from “i/o”

Peter Gabriel released the next single “Four Kinds of Horses” off his forthcoming record “i/o” on Friday (May 5th). The song thus joins the 73-year-old’s “Full Moon Singles”: Each advance release is scheduled after the full moon phases. “i/o” is supposed to be released this year, but an exact date is not yet known.

“Four Kinds of Horses” originally came from Richard Russel’s project “Everything is Recorded”, as Gabriel explains about the new single. “He’s a friend of mine and asked me to stop by his studio. I came up with chords, a melody and lyrics for one of his grooves. We tried a bit, but nothing really worked, so the project died again. I then started playing around with it again, changing the mood and the groove, which resulted in something new, with a better chorus.”

Peter Gabriel once again collaborated with Brian Eno on Four Kinds of Horses. The two musicians had previously collaborated on Us (1992). Eno was also involved in the first “i/o” single “Panopticom”.

So far, two versions of all the “Full Moon Singles” have appeared: a “Bright Side” mix and a “Dark Side” mix. The bright side mix was released on Friday and the dark side mix will follow later this month. There will also be an “Atmos” mix of the track.

The current single is already the fifth release, alongside “i/o”, “Panopticom”, “The Court” and “Playing For Time”.
