Cheese factory from Fijnaart robbed again: ‘There is a cheese gang behind this’

‘Shattered and sad’. The words that Gerda van Dorp and her husband Joost have posted on Facebook leave nothing to the imagination. Since 2019, the couple has owned cheese dairy and store Torenpolderkaas in Fijnaart. ‘We have once again fallen victim to a brutal robbery,’ says Gerda with a deep sigh.

Just over a year ago, about 160 cheeses disappeared from their cheese factory on the Oude Appelaarsedijk. Monday night it was price again. “The burglars broke into the store with a lot of force. Then they took all the cheeses from our storage. I don’t know exactly how many there are. We haven’t counted it yet.”

“Really everything, but they took everything with them.”

The theft affects Gerda very much. Despite extra locks and security equipment, unknown persons managed to enter the store and the storage room with cheeses. “Really everything, but they took everything with them. We will be closed for the next few weeks. I have nothing left to sell. You work hard for that all year long.”

Gerda and Joost were at home, but did not notice the theft. “Otherwise they wouldn’t have been able to take so much with them.” According to Gerda, an organized gang is behind the cheese robbery. “Last year there were several major thefts of cheeses. But the perpetrators are not caught. There is a cheese gang behind this.”
