Juan Carlos I denies having a secret daughter named Alejandra

Juan Carlos I has denied this Thursday the information published by ‘El Confidencial’ in which he ensures that he has a secret daughter named Alexandra. As EL PERIÓDICO DE CATALUNYA has learned from sources close to the emeritus, the former head of state has denied the data from that media outlet to his closest friends with whom he has spoken throughout the day. The publication ensures that the monarch, in addition to Elena, Felipe and Cristina, had a fourth descendant in the 70s with a aristocrat Spanish.

The information appears in a book written by journalists José María Olmo and David Fernández titled ‘King Corp. The untold empire of Juan Carlos I’ (Books of the KO). For more than three years, according to Olmo, both have investigated the financial assets, business and friendships of the emeritus and, in that process, they have discovered the existence of Alejandra, of which they emphasize that she has never claimed any kind of Succession right Juan Carlos I. Olmo downplays the former head of state’s denial and wonders what the emeritus would have said if, four years ago, someone had asked him if he had money in tax havens.

Zarzuela reaction

In the book, of which ‘El Confidencial’ gave a preview, it is assured that this blood relationship between Alejandra and the emeritus is something known by all members of the royal family, although official sources from Zarzuela also denied that point to EL PERIÓDICO. At mid-morning, barely three hours after the information was published, the Casa del Rey claimed “to have no knowledge” of whether Juan Carlos I has a secret daughter named Alexandra and a spokesperson suggested that any questions on this matter be raised directly with the king emeritus. That source declined to answer any questions about the potential impact of the information on the succession line.

It is not something new that Zarzuela dodges questions from journalists about Juan Carlos I. It has been doing so since 2019, when the monarch stopped institutionally representing the Crown and abandoned public life. That decision was made by Felipe VI weeks after learning that his father had money abroad, something that was publicly known a year later, in March 2020, when he announced that he would renounce the inheritance that may come to him when he dies. That decision was made after several foreign media outlets published details about the fortune of Juan Carlos I in tax havens.

The authors of the book They do not reveal Alejandra’s last name and they say that they have confirmed their existence through three sources of information: a former lover of Juan Carlos I, to whom he confessed his paternity; a businessman friend of the monarch and an ex-partner of the girl.

According to the investigation, the girl grew up not knowing who her father really was and, once she did, she chose to continue her previous life as part of an aristocratic family “well connected to power”. When she found out about the bond that united her with Juan Carlos, the monarch, the journalists point out, this “tried to make up for the lack of official recognition with affection and other signs of generosity, although he never treated her like his other three children.
