From children’s parades to getting rich while sleeping on the flea market: there was a lot to experience in the IJmond today. A look back in pictures.

Children’s parade Driehuis

At the Lodewijk van Deyssellaan, the children’s parade will leave for the Middeloolaan, accompanied by Muziekorkest Soli. They make two stops to entertain the elderly living in Serviceflat de Luchte.

Square 1945 IJmuiden

Many parents and their children first walk along the free market and then end up at the fair on Plein 1945. Naima sells Moroccan items and supports the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria with the money she earns. Elisabeth, who sells clothes opposite Namia, makes a party of it. “It doesn’t really sell yet, but the fun is all that counts,” says Elisabeth.

Breestraat Beverwijk

“We sold stuff for eighty euros. It was a successful day.” Says Ellen Oosterwal. She has been part of the free market together with her neighbors for 35 years.

It was also a nice day for the observant security guards.

Heemskerk center

It is very busy in the center of Heemskerk. The people visit this place annually because of its cozy atmosphere. A band performs every year. “I come especially for the coziness of this place,” says Samira, who has just bought toys for her children.

A little further on, money is being earned while sleeping. “Because if you’ve had a good time all evening, then of course you want to sleep,” says the mother of the sleeping boy. It didn’t bring him much money until the end of the day. “Well. He was able to earn a euro with it,” said the smiling mother.
