The leader of the Russian mercenary army Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin (61), earns a lot of money from the war in Ukraine. This is evident from calculations published by independent journalists.
Journalists from Moschem objasnit (“We can explain”) compared the financial data of Prigozhin’s various companies. The medium reveals that Prigzojin’s firms were able to rake in a record amount of 4.7 billion rubles (about 52 million euros) through contracts with the Russian Ministry of Defense last year. The companies earned this sum by, among other things, providing soldiers with food and building barracks.
The year before the war in Ukraine, in 2021, Prigozhin earned “only” 1.9 billion rubles (21 million euros). The confidant of Russian President Vladimir Putin has clearly found a new revenue model in the war.

In addition, Prigozhin has several contracts with the Kremlin. According to calculations by the independent Wjorstka, the Wagner leader earned another 4.4 billion rubles (about 49 million euros) last year from delivering meals to schools and hospitals.
Prigozhin has not yet responded to the report.
