TV poker for World Cup: National coach relies on agreement

National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg cannot imagine that the women’s football World Cup will not be broadcast on German television in the summer.

“I have a clear opinion on that: I know that an agreement will be reached. I’m a very positive person,” said the 55-year-old at a DFB event in Frankfurt/Main.

Although the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand begins on July 20th, the question of transfer – including in other countries – has still not been resolved. The bidding process for the broadcasting rights “has so far been unsuccessful because there have been no offers that recognize the true value of the world’s largest women’s football tournament,” said world governing body FIFA recently about poker.

You can only appeal to “common sense,” said Voss-Tecklenburg: “That there is no alternative but to agree.” Last year’s European Championship in England was a ratings hit: the live broadcast of the final between Germany and England at Wembley Stadium was even the most watched television program of the entire year with 17.952 million viewers.
