Borussia Mönchengladbach extended early with Joe Scally

From U23 talent to World Championship driver

Borussia Mönchengladbach has prematurely extended Joe Scally’s contract by one year. The 20-year-old US international signed a new working paper until June 30, 2027. The right-back came from New York City FC in January 2021 for 1.8 million euros and gained a regular spot in the regional league reserve after six months with the professionals of the “foals”, for which he has played a total of 61 games (two goals) to date.

“Joe has developed very well with us. At his age and at this speed, going the way from a hopeful talent in the U23s to a regular player in the Bundesliga and even a World Cup driver is an example of the career that we strive for with external top talent. The new contract, which has been extended by one year, recognizes this development, which we will be happy to continue driving with him,” said sporting director Roland Virkus.

Scally, who has now increased his market value to €12 million, added: “The most important thing for me is to play as often as possible. Borussia gives me the opportunity to do exactly that and to develop as a player. During the talks, those responsible showed me a clear plan as to the direction in which we should proceed. I’m looking forward to walking this path together with Borussia.”
