The handball players from Frisch Auf Göppingen defeated RK Nexe Nasice 32:23 (15:9) in the first leg of the quarter-finals of the European League and have a good starting position for the second leg next week.
From the start, an intense encounter developed between Frisch Auf Göppingen and the guests from Croatian Nasice, who initially had a slight advantage. However, Tim Kneule gave the hosts the first lead in the sixth minute (3:2).
Marcel Schiller put the team of coach Markus Baur in the lead with the 8:6 in the 16th minute with two goals for the first time. Previously, fresh-up keeper Marin Sego had parried strongly against Predrag Vejin. And the people from Göppingen stayed on: Gilberto Brito Duarte prevailed after a counterattack and scored to make it 10:6 (23rd). Until the break, Frisch threw up a 15:9.
Göppingen keeps the pressure high
In the second half, Göppingen remained focused and extended their lead, Jaka Malus scored in the 39th minute to make it 19:11. With a double advantage, goalkeeper Sego shot at the empty guest goal – Nasice had taken the keeper off the field in attack – for a ten-goal gap.
The guests didn’t give up, however, but held back: Janko Kevic brought Nasice back up to seven goals (52′). With three goals in a row, Frisch Auf then provided clear conditions, in the end it was 32:23 for Göppingen.
Schiller and Gulliksen on target
The best pitchers of the game were Marcel Schiller and Kevin Gulliksen from Göppingen as well as guest pro Kevic, each with seven goals. The second leg will take place next Tuesday (April 18, 2023 from 6.45 p.m.) in Nasice.
