Black dust is released above the Norit Activated Carbon site: ‘Not harmful’

A black cloud was released tonight at Norit Activated Carbon in Klazienaveen. At first it seemed to be a fire, so the fire brigade responded to the report.

But no fire has been reported at the Norit Activated Carbon factory. According to a spokesman for the Drenthe Safety Region (VRD), it was a black substance that was released in the filtering process of the production. “The wind was in the wrong direction, so the dust remained hanging above the site. Normally, such a cloud of dust dissolves faster.”

The VRD also said that the substance is not harmful.
