FC Volendam lost 2-1 on a visit to sc Heerenveen. Wim Jonk’s team played a great game, but was empty-handed at the end of the stage.
FC Volendam already fell behind in the sixth minute. Sydney van Hooijdonk tapped in from close range on behalf of the home team. More than ten minutes later, Henk Veerman equalized. Veerman shot in diagonally on a pass from Calvin Twigt. The VAR still had to check the goal, because Veerman was on the edge of offside.
Opportunities over and over again
Both teams had chances in an open game. For example, Veerman was close to a second goal, but Heerenveen keeper Mous managed to save the marker. Immediately afterwards, Van Hooijdonk was also dangerous. It was the Heerenveen striker who shot Heerenveen ahead again in the 33rd minute.
After the break, FC Volendam came out of the dressing room well. With a nice individual action, Gaetano Oristanio became dangerous, but Mous managed to turn the effort of the Italian well.
To prevent
The second half was much less lively than the first half. The home team collapsed considerably and FC Volendam had the initiative, but it did not get any great opportunities. Defender Damon Mirani was sent forward in the final phase, but that did not yield anything.
All in all, Wim Jonk’s team played a great game, but went back to Volendam without points. The Volendam team are now in fourteenth place in the Eredivisie.
