Karel Kip (42) from Hollandscheveld under the spell of LEGO: ‘Have 365,000 parts’

The Mecca for LEGO fanatics is perhaps Hollandscheveld. For years, 42-year-old Karel Kip has been buying thousands of parts from the well-known toy brand. And then they go all over the world.

Boxes, drawers and cupboards are full of LEGO in his house. Anyone who takes a look in the hobby room of the Hollandschevelder will see that there is no room for anything other than the popular building block. When asked whether his hobby has gotten out of hand in recent years, the collector is clear. “You could say that, yes. But yes, it is very nice and I enjoy working on it.”

The hobby room used to be a bedroom for one of his daughters, who now sleeps in the attic. “But I didn’t consciously chase it away, it happened by chance,” Kip laughs. The passion for the building blocks came to life again a few years ago.

“A friend once showed me a whole collection. I had children and then I took the collection from my own childhood again. Then you find out that you are missing parts. I was able to buy them again via a website. Then I came up with the idea of starting my own shop.
