Surprise! AC Milan shoots down SSC Napoli

SSC Napoli have stumbled on their way to their first Italian soccer league title in 33 years.

The dominant Serie A leaders lost 4-0 (0-2) to defending champions AC Milan in front of their home crowd, but are still 16 points ahead of Lazio Roma in second place with ten rounds to go.

It is Napoli’s second league defeat in a month after just one defeat of the previous season. Rafael Leao (17’/59′), Brahim Diaz (25′) and Alexis Saelemaekers (67′) scored the goals for Milan, who are 20 points behind in third place. Both teams will meet again in the quarter-finals of the Champions League on April 12th and 18th.

Inter Milan had already suffered the next setback on Saturday. The Lombards lost 0-1 (0-0) against AC Florence and thus gained more ground on the top teams.

It was the third loss in a row for Inter and the fourth in their last five Serie A games.

Giacomo Bonaventura (53rd) scored the winning goal for the team from Tuscany. National player Robin Gosens was in the starting line-up for Inter but was substituted in the 63rd minute.

The traditional Milan club is fourth in the table, Fiorentina is eighth.
