A newborn wallaby was rescued from the water from the animal park in Park Molenwijk in Boxtel on Sunday evening. Passersby saw that the mother kept jumping against a fence and noticed the baby fallen into the water at that spot.
The passers-by called the animal ambulance and the police, but initially received no response. When Enforcement employees happened to pass by, the fire brigade was alerted. Together with some police officers, they came to the park to get the wallaby out of the water.
The young animal was hypothermic and was therefore wrapped in heat foil. When the animal ambulance arrived a little later, this service took over the care for the wallaby.
