Foo Fighters: 101 Drummers Perform “My Hero” in Honor of Taylor Hawkins

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins died unexpectedly in Bogota on March 25, 2022. Exactly one year after his loss to the rock world, the Belgian band The Black Box Revelation played a tribute show for him at the “Sportpaleis” in Antwerp, supported by 100 Belgian drummers. There, where the Foo Fighters gave their last Belgium concert on June 11, 2018, they covered “My Hero” together. With complete success.

In 2015, 1000 Italian fans implemented a similar idea, albeit for a less serious reason. As part of the “Rockin’1000” campaign, 1000 musicians played the song “Learn to Fly”. However, without a single band at the center and with overcast on all variables of the musical equation. They were so successful in motivating the Foo Fighters to play a concert in the small Italian town of Cesena.

“My Hero” is a piece whose rhythm will probably stay with its original performer forever. The group around Dave Grohl consolidated this special feature again at last year’s tribute concert for their backer in London. Especially for this track, they left the sticks to Hawkins’ son Shane in their show, which gave a number of famous drummers the opportunity to say their own goodbyes.

In the summer of this year, the formation will go on a festival tour, possibly supported by drummers Matt Cameron and Atom Willard. Among other things, they can be seen at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park on June 2nd and 4th.
