Gerry Hamstra and Ajax will be separating in the short term. The 52-year-old technical manager is in talks with the club to terminate his contract until mid-2024 and thus makes also room for Julian Wardwhich will be presented soon.
Hamstra has been employed by Ajax for about two years. After leaving Heerenveen, he started working in Amsterdam as a technical manager, a role that was created to relieve director Marc Overmars of contract matters involving the highest youth teams.
When the latter left last year as a result of unacceptable behavior, Hamstra was given more responsibility. Together with general manager Edwin van der Sar and the new Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, he had to maintain Ajax’s status of ruler in the Netherlands and stunt team in Europe with a successful trainer change and transformation of the selection.
