Some 5,000 people participated in the UNICEF Race for Education

Some five thousand solidarity runners enjoyed the #UNICEFRace for Education in the Forests of Palermo. Under the slogan “Join so that more girls and boys learn throughout the country”, the sporting event returned for its 14th edition and achieved a total collection of $38,725,200 which will be fully allocated to educational projects in which UNICEF works throughout the country.

Led by Julián Weich, UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, and journalist Sofía Martínez, the day began with a warm-up for the runners and at 8 in the morning, the purple tide left from Av. Figueroa Alcorta and Dorrego in his classic two routes: a competitive one of 10 kilometers and a participatory one of 2 kilometers.

Once the race and the award ceremony were over, several raffles were held among those registered. The top prize was a chevrolet joy 0km whose winner was Christian Torres.

It is a joy to meet again in this UNICEF classic that year after year summons us in favor of girls and boys“, he claimed Luisa Brumana, Representative of UNICEF Argentina. “More than ever we ran motivated so that the school and its learning reach all the girls, boys and adolescents in Argentina, regardless of where they live. So that everyone has access to a quality education that allows them to develop their full potential: today and in the future”, he stressed.

1 in 2 19-year-olds from the most vulnerable sectors do not finish high school and close to 93,000 adolescents in rural areas do not have access to secondary education, of which 65,000 belong to dispersed rural contexts. “In Argentina there are great inequalities in the learning achieved by students”, explained the UNICEF Education Specialist, Cora Steinberg. “That’s why, the proceeds from the #UNICEFRace It will be allocated to two educational initiatives developed by UNICEF in the country: Rural Secondary Schools mediated by Technologies (SRTIC), which seek to guarantee the right to education of thousands of adolescents who live in dispersed rural areas through the use of technologies; and PLANEA, New School for Adolescents, which seeks to transform secondary education through the development of innovative ways of teaching and learning that guarantee conditions of well-being for students and teachers”, he added.

Those attending the event shared a day of sports and solidarity and enjoyed the activities offered by the sponsors in the more than 18 stands set up. In addition, there was a different and transformative proposal: from an experience they were able to carry out a circuit carrying water cans, to experience the efforts made by millions of girls and women around the world in search of drinking water for their families. This dynamic allowed them to learn more about one of the main needs of more than 450 million girls and boys and join with a donation to help solve this problem.

Personalities from the artistic environment such as Federico Cyrulnik, Christian Sancho, Naty Franzoni and journalists from all fields and opinion leaders such as Eleonora Pérez Caressi and Carolina Rossi, among others, were present.
