Drenthe to the polls, how did that work out four years ago?

Coming night we will know how Drenthe voted for the provincial elections. But what about four years ago? And what was the voter turnout during these regional elections?

The turnout percentage in provincial elections is generally lower than in national elections. Where in 2021 78.7 percent of the people entitled to vote showed up in the national elections, that turnout percentage is much lower in the previous Provincial Council elections, namely 56.2 percent nationally. In Drenthe this was 59 percent.

If we look at the turnout in the Drenthe municipalities during the previous provincial elections, we see that the Drenthe, in general, scores above the national turnout percentage.

In the twelve Drenthe municipalities, the Drent generally preferred the VVD four years ago. In seven of the twelve municipalities it was the most elected party at the time.

The PvdA was also relatively popular in Drenthe. It was the largest party in the municipalities of Assen, Noordenveld, Emmen and Borger-Odoorn. It is also striking that Forum for Democracy scores high in the final result. In half of the municipalities they have secured a place in the top three.
