Rangnick calls Darmstadts Honsak for Austria for the first time – Bremer Friedl & Schmid are left out

Nine professionals from Germany

Mathias Honsak (26) can show himself for the first time with the Austrian national team. The winger from second division leaders Darmstadt 98 is part of team boss Ralf Rangnick’s squad for the start of the European Championship qualifiers against Azerbaijan (March 24) and Estonia (27th) along with eight other professionals active in Germany. He is the only second division team in the squad.

Freiburg’s Philipp Lienhart (26) and Michael Gregoritsch (28) have also joined the ÖFB selection from Bundesliga clubs. Also present: Dejan Ljubicic (25, 1. FC Köln), Konrad Laimer (25, RB Leipzig), Christoph Baumgartner (23, Hoffenheim), Florian Kainz (30, 1. FC Köln), Patrick Wimmer (21, VfL Wolfsburg) and the recovered Karim Onisiwo (30, Mainz 05). The Bremen Marco Friedl (24) and Roman Schmid (23) did not find a place in Rangnick’s squad. Gladbach are also missing Stefan Lainer (30) and Union veteran Christopher Trimmel (36).

In addition to Honsak, Rapid full-back could also make his debut Jonas Auer (22), who, like the former man from Kiel, was also nominated for the first time. Also the last injured David Alaba (30, Real Madrid) and Bayern loan Marcel Sabitzer (28, Man United) are in the 25-man squad.
