Gigante Odermatt takes the second World Cup

In Kranjska Gora the Swiss triumphs ahead of Pinturault and conquers the second consecutive trophy. De Aliprandini tenth who qualifies for the finals with Della Vite (14th)

The masterpiece is accomplished: with a second heat without overdoing Marco Odermatt wins the giant of Kranjska Gora and takes full loot. World Cup (the second in a row), one step Giant Cup (here too it would be the second in a row). For Odermatt – world gold in giant slalom and downhill – it is the tenth success of the season, enough to reach the finals with an unbridgeable lead for Kilde: 1726 points against the 1240 of the Norwegian, who will not be able to recover 486 points from Odermatt. Tomorrow there is still a giant, but Kilde had already decided to give up the Kranjska stage to prepare for the World Cup finals scheduled in Soldeu (Andorra) from Wednesday to Sunday.

The race

When Odermatt started in the second moto in the lead was Alexis Pinturault. The Swiss arrived with a delay of 2 cents at the penultimate intermediate stage, then accelerated to finish in 2’16″65 with 23/100 on the Frenchman who is back on the podium in giant slalom after 14 months (he had been third in Adelboden on 8 January 2022). Kristoffersen also takes the podium, third at 37/100 ahead of Brennsteiner (at 72/100) and Kranjec (at 1”04).

The blues

The best of the Azzurri is Luca De Aliprandini, never so good in giant this year. In the end he is tenth at 2 ”14 (he was 14th in the first) but what convinces is a second heat finally at the level of the best. He relegates Filippo Della Vite from 10th to 14th place (at 2”52); 18th place for Zingerle (at 3″06), while Borsotti is 25th at 3″86.

Another giant is scheduled for tomorrow in Kranjska.
