Nice gesture for a special occasion!
Everyone knows the melody, everyone has sung along – and music star Herbert Grönemeyer (66) owes this hit to his mega success: “Men”. Now the song has been rewritten – for International Women’s Day.
As the radio station RBB 88.8 of Rundfunk Berlin-Brandenburg (RBB) announced, the 66-year-old sang the song there for the first time on Wednesday morning in the “women’s” version.
The text now says, for example, instead of “Men give you a hug / Men give you security”, it now says “Women make us strong / Women are like a tailwind”.
The salary gap between men’s and women’s wages in the working world was also addressed in the new text: “Women like to shop / women get too little wages”.
The new lines were written by RBB moderator Philipp Schmid.
The original song “Männer” was released in 1984 and was Grönemeyer’s breakthrough as a musician. The song appeared on the album “4360 Bochum”, which stayed in the top 100 of the hit parade for 79 weeks.
The song itself was in the charts for 26 weeks. Highest placement: 7th
The song is still an absolute hit today. Maybe the song will soon be available as a studio version with new lyrics.
