John Williams sees the concerns about Help Mijn Man Is Klusser increasing now that his TV child no longer scores as before. “Week after week it becomes clear that he himself needs auxiliary troops!”

Help Mijn Man Is Klusser was a huge hit on RTL 4 for years, but seventeen years later (!) The viewing figures are under pressure. Media connoisseur Rob Goossens thinks that the broadcasts simply take too long, but viewing figures expert Tina Nijkamp fears a more fundamental problem. She thinks that the format no longer fits this time.

John need help?

Help Mijn Man Is Klusser had to settle for 738 thousand viewers and a 13 percent market share on RTL 4 last night, just not enough for a spot in the top 15 viewing figure. Four (!) channels did better in prime time: NPO 1, SBS 6 , NPO 2 and NPO 3 (in that order). According to Tina, that is really writing on the wall.

Tina writes on her widely read analysis channel: “Week after week it becomes clear that Help Mijn Man Is Klusser itself has to call in auxiliary troops, because things are not going well. The numbers drop every week.”

Old-fashioned format

It is no longer of this time, thinks Tina. “Besides the old-fashioned purpose of the format (a woman who has to turn on a program to help her husband grow), the viewer is no longer waiting for auxiliary TV.”

She continues: “In any case, we already saw the mediocre figures of Je Huis Op Orde and the last season of Addicted! that more and more viewers seem to be uncomfortable with this kind of TV show. In addition, it no longer feels very authentic and that is the magic word of TV in 2023.”

To RTL 5?

It could just be that John is demoted, says Tina. “I wonder if this will remain on RTL 4 or will move to the somewhat rawer and smaller RTL5 next season. I suspect it will go to RTL 5, RTL 4 seems to have outgrown this format.”

Sister channel RTL 5 broadcast two programs at prime time yesterday: Big Brother (234 thousand) and 112 Today (290 thousand). That station can therefore also use a boost.
