Denise Betsema finished second in the last cyclo-cross of the year today. The Texel cyclist had to lose out to world champion Lucinda Brand in the final phase of the Azencross in Loenhout in Belgium.

Right from the start, Betsema and Shirin van Anrooij took the initiative on the swampy course. However, the two were soon overtaken by Brand and Annemarie Worst. Betsema clearly had good legs and again tried to drive away from the others. Unfortunately, this attempt also failed and a group formed at the front with Betsema, Van Anrooij and Brand.

Supreme Fire

In the final phase of the match, 28-year-old Betsema went on another adventure, but the two others did not let her go. In the last round it was Brand himself who took a small lead and then didn’t give it up. Betsema eventually finished second within a few seconds of the all-powerful Brand this season. Van Anrooij came in third, which made the entire podium Dutch colored.
