Manuel Baum criticizes Munich in 1860: “Not the fine English way”

Sports director Gorenzel counters

TSV 1860 Munich presented a new coach in Maurizio Jacobacci about a month after Michael Köllner was fired. While he spoke clear words to the team at the start, ex-Bundesliga coach Manuel Baum publicly criticized the “lions” on the TV channel “Sky” – according to which the 43-year-old assumed that he would get the post on Grünwalder Straße.

The former Schalke and Augsburg coach, like Achim Beierlorzer, was traded as a possible candidate for the blue and whites until the end. Baum confirmed corresponding talks with the third division club, but the club’s communication was questionable: “Everyone knows that I have a deep connection to the club. Now with my son in the third generation as a player there. In fact, there was contact on Thursday saying: ‘You, can you help us until the end of the season?’ I think it’s always very important if you have a bond with the club and if you’re not doing well then say: Yes, you can help! That’s why I’ve actually already prepared myself for Monday. And then on Saturday I read: Now it’s someone else! It is of course surprising how one or the other communication works. That was not the fine English way!”

“For me it was neither about running time nor about money. I repeat myself: you are close to the club, I just wanted to help. I had already prepared myself a bit,” Baum said in reference to his TV statements to the newspaper, among others, “tz‘ and the portal ‘dieblaue24.comquoted. Sports director Günther Gorenzel, who has acted as interim coach for four games in the meantime but remained without a win, dismissed Baum’s criticism: “In the last few weeks I have said several times that I do not read anything in the media. Of course, I spoke to a lot of coaches and always explained the situation openly to each of them. I told every coach or my contact person what our decision was. I can’t understand his statements, but I won’t comment on them.”

Jacobacci challenges 1860 professionals: “I exude a winning mentality”

Meanwhile, the new coach Jacobacci, appointed by TSV 1860, has started work on Grünwalder Straße. The 60-year-old presented himself full of energy and was visibly trying to breathe new life into the “Löwen” who have been without a win for five games in a row and have slipped down to eighth place in the table. “I exude a winning mentality and I pass it on,” said the Italian, who responded to the question about his short-term plan: “conceding fewer goals. And belief in yourself needs to come back. The team needs joy, then the courage will come back. I mustn’t overload them with tactics now, they’re mentally blocked, I have to solve that. I’m a motivator, I’m there for the players. You must accept my help and want success.”

The gap to the promotion relegation place is currently four points, on Saturday “Sechzig” expects Viktoria Cologne at Giesings Höhen in the Grünwalder Stadion. “I am deliberately not using the word ascent at the moment. It’s clear that if you don’t submit to success, you’ll have a problem with me. I expect full commitment,” said Jacobacci, who at 1860 has the fourth most valuable squad in the league.
