On Saturday (February 25), Madonna’s brother-in-law – musician Joe Henry – announced via Instagram that her older brother Anthony Ciccone had died at the age of 66. The cause of death was not disclosed. Now the “Queen of Pop” has commented on her brother’s death: She shared a black and white photo in her Instagram story, which shows her and Anthony sitting in a larger group. Everyone is laughing and seems to be having a good time.

“You have sown many great seeds”

The caption reads, “Thank you for blowing my mind as a young girl and introducing me to Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Buddhism, Taoism, Charles Bukowski, Richard Brautigan, Jack Kerouac, expansive thinking and thinking outside the box.” The 64-year-old concluded her text with the words: “You have sown many important seeds.”

Joe Henry, who is married to Madonna’s sister Melanie, wrote in his tribute post to Anthony: “I’ve known him since I was 15, in the spring of our lives in Michigan, which is so many years ago now. As Brother Dave Henry (who took this photograph) notes here, Anthony was a complex character; and Lord knows we have at times quarreled as only true brothers can.”

According to a report by the US newspaper Page Six Anthony Ciccone is said to have struggled with alcoholism for years and even lived on the streets. The relationship between Madonna and her brother is said to have been rather tense. The Daily Mail reported in 2011 that Madonna paid for his stay in rehab. Nevertheless, he publicly accused her of a lack of support.
