PSV has broken open the contract of Belgian Johan Bakayoko and extended it until the summer of 2026. The 19-year-old attacker exchanged Anderlecht for PSV in 2019 and is in his first full season in the first team.
“We would like to further develop this young player, with great international potential, for the club,” said general manager Marcel Brands about the extension. PSV recently said goodbye to two other attackers: Cody Gakpo and Noni Madueke.
According to PSV, Bakayoko could count on the interest of Paris Saint-Germain this winter, but Bakayoko preferred to stay in Eindhoven. “I want to be champion here,” he said. “This contract shows that the club has confidence in me. I am very proud.”
Bakayoko scored four goals in thirteen league games this season. This season Bakayoko, who made his debut in the first team on February 8 of last year, scored four goals in thirteen league games. On Sunday, he gave two assists in the 3-1 home match against FC Twente.
PSV is fourth in the Eredivisie and is 6 points behind leader Feyenoord. On Thursday, the team from Eindhoven will compete against ADO Den Haag in the quarterfinals of the cup.
